About Devasthan


Shri. Kunwara Bhimsen Pen Thana (Devasthan) is a puratan temple dedicated to the Gond Diety Shri. Baba Kunwara Bhimalpen who is worshiped by Gond community as their 4th Dharma Guru of Gond Religion (Koya Punem). The diety is believed to be the incarnation of Lord Shiva. It is situated on the bank of river pench of Kuwara Bhivsen Village located in Parseoni Tehsil of Nagpur District. It is an auspicious and sacred religious devasthan (Pen Thana) for Gond community. Gond community believes that the sacredness of this shrine benefits them by wishing anything they desire before this diety. The temple is surrounded by scenic natural beauty that includes pench river bank, surrounding hills with greenery. The temple has been accorded as a religious pilgrimage accreditation and is identified as a tourist spot by the government with complete road connectivity. On the 5th Day of the Krishna Paksha of the Chaitra, a ceremony is held at this place where more than 1000 devotees offer prayers and do ceremonial sacrifices to please the Lord Bhimalpen, it is known as “Bhimalpen Jatra”.


About Baba Bhimal Pen


Shri. Kunwara Bhimal Pen was the yoga-accomplished warrior and mighty great man, born in the Madavi Gotra of the Gond community on the day of Chaitra Purnima. He was the son of Bhura Bhumka and Kotama Dai, a resident of (Bayer) Lanji in the Terai, Maikal mountain ranges of Madhya Pradesh. He had given up his house and personal life to serve the people of the Koya tribe, the Gond community. He had six brothers and five sisters. Jataba, Kesho, Hirba, Bana, Bhaji, Mukosha and Bhimal were the names of the seven brothers. Pandari, Pungar, Mungur, Kushal and Khairo Dai, were the names of the five sisters. All these brothers and sisters of Bhimal Pen, gave up their personal life to serve the people of any race. Bhimal Pen's service life is still alive forever. Bhimal Pen, went to Nar-Nate (village to village), established kushti center in the form of Gotul, where he taught the Koyavasi people the skills of Badga, Bilamb (Dhanushvidhya), Malla, Mushti and Kushti etc. In the same way, with his 'Tandari Yoga Shakti', he used to help everyone by knowing their pains. On the strength of his Yoga Shakti, he used to make the monsoon rain. Hence, he is also called the God of Water. Bhimal Pen's brothers Jataba and Hirba were experts in the construction of tall-tallaiyya, Kesho and Bana were experts in agriculture whereas Bhaji and Munkosa were skilled in making paths. Similarly, his sisters, Pandhari and Pungar, guided the establishment of grain stores in every village on a cooperative basis. Mungur and Kushal used to help in the construction of villages and residences, Sheetala or Mata Dai was skilled in Baiga i.e. Veda Shastra. She used to serve all the villagers by treating them with medicine. It is said that, in the time of Bhimal Pen, all Gonds were living in peace. Therefore, his worship is still practiced today. In Koytur (tribal) areas, Bhimal Pen is seated in Khairo Dai Ke Gudi in Har Nar-Nate (every village). The Gond tribals worship their ancestors and their favorite Pen (Dev) Power is in accordance with nature in which trees, hills and mountains etc. are considered to be worshipped. Bhimal Pen is one of the Pen (Dev) of Gond tribals. Every gond village has in its own rituals and customs and considers "Bhimal Pen". In the absence of information, he is also acknowledged as Bhimsan or Bhimsen. But Bhimal is widely known as Kunwara Bhimal Pen. Bhimal Pen diety was not married. Hence, is called Kunwara Bhimal Pen.

Devasthan is open on all days till night but it is advisable to visit in daytime due to jungle surrounding the premises. Following are the facilities on devasthan:

Complete Road Connectivity: The Kunwara Bhimsen Devasthan is completely connected by tar road from Parseoni.

Kunwara Bhimsen Samaj Bhavan: Government of Maharashtra funded Kunwara Bhimsen Samaj Bhavan has been constructed and is available for cultural use by visitors and devasthan.

Scenic Natural Beauty: Visitors can experience scenic natural ambience consisting pench river, bhimgad hill surrounded by lush green forest.

Food Stalls: Devasthan surrounding has food stalls & convenience stores for visitors.

Visitor Sheds: Devasthan has made sheds for visitors wherein they can cook prasad & organise gatherings. (Firewood, Drinking Water is easily available in premises)
